A new MP3 audio tour is giving Camden Town residents a fresh view of their home turf – through the eyes of their own neighbours.
Husband and wife team James and Jo Bryan have plotted an hour-long walk from the tube station to Stables Market, taking in a host of historical sites and undiscovered landmarks.
BBC London radio presenter and proud resident Robert Elms acts as a tour guide while a range of locals offer their own colourful insights into Camden Town along the route.
Mr Bryan, who spent two years living in Baynes Street off Camden Road, said: “Camden Town has such a buzz about it and it’s the perfect area to discover on foot. There’s so much more to it than the market – it has an incredible only-in-London quirky history.”
“We hope the walk will appeal to residents as well as tourists and help people to see their own area I a new light.”
Walkers simply download the ‘Soundmap”, put on their headphones and start strolling.
Highlights include overlooked landmarks such as Arlington House and little-known unknown underground shelters and rivers near the canal.
Mrs Bryan, a former resident of Fortess Road, Kentish Town said: “We had great fun interviewing locals, shopkeepers and market traders and it gave a real local flavour to enhance the experience.”
