You’ve heard of star tours where tourists see where the rich and famous live. One London group has come up with a grisly twist on the idea. Their Sweeney Todd “audiowalk”, coinciding with the film’s release, takes fans on a ghoulish trek through the Fleet Street area, visiting locations such as Mrs Lovett’s legendary pie shop, St Dunstan’s Church where Sweeney reputedly stored his victims and, of course, the site of Sweeney Todd’s butchering barbershop itself. Tourists and Londoners alike download stories to their MP3 player and listen along as they do the hour-long walk. It was created by Soundmap with Warner Brothers, and includes the movie’s music and audio clips and an interview with the film’s director, Tim Burton. But you don’t actually have to be in London to enjoy the walk- it is free to download. Soundmap does regular ambles too, around Brixton, Camden Town, Kings Road and Soho, narrated by well-known citizens from each area. These cost about AU$15. All can be downloaded at www.soundmap.co.uk.
